Free Activities for Children This Autumn and Winter

The cost of living is at an all-time high. With the price of bills soaring and food prices on the up day by day, it can be hard to stretch your money across the month. With this in mind, I've put together a little guide containing free activities that you can do with your children this autumn and winter so you won't need to add the cost of their entertainment to the rest of your outgoings. If you're able to save money at all, this can certainly be beneficial so that when prices continue to rise for everyday services and goods, you will have a buffer behind you which will also help with any unexpected bills that arrive. If you're looking to save money, a savings calculator like the one found at SavingsCalculator.org can help you determine what you might be able to save with regular deposits.

With this in mind, here are some free activities you can you with your child this autumn and winter!

Treasure hunt
Hide a number of written clues in various places around the house and watch as the children try to solve the riddles which lead them to the hidden treasure! The treasure could be something you already have in the house, eg, a chocolate coin, their favourite piece of fruit or even a little letter you've written for them. The treasure hunt could keep them busy for hours!

Scavenger hunt
Scavenger hunts are great for keeping children entertained outdoors. You provide them with a list of natural objects to find and they then have to source them all. Autumn themed scavenger hunts are lovely as you can include different coloured leaves, conkers and acorns for example.

Nature pictures
Encouraging children to use outdoor materials to create a piece of art is a lovely activity. They will adore being creative and making their little masterpieces! You could even encourage them to make a fairy garden or dinosaur land by providing them with a paper place and letting their imaginations soar.

Indoor fort
There's nothing more exciting for a child than building forts in the house using sheets and pillows. They can take their favourite toys in there too and get super snuggly and cosy.

Picnic in the house
Simply laying down a picnic blanket and allowing your little ones to have an indoor picnic, will bring lots of joy to them. They could even help you prepare the picnic basket!
