Helping Your Child Become More Confident

Confidence. What is it? Confidence is one’s ability to have faith in themselves. It can help them to remain relatively stress free and tackle challenges better as a result. A lot of it comes from childhood and earlier life experiences. To help your child grow into a confident individual, there are a number of things that you can do as a private school in Notting Hill shares with us below.

Positive Self Talk
The way that we talk to ourselves can either set us up for failure or put us in a mindset where we want to grow and achieve. As a parent it's important that you display the behaviours that you want to see in your child as you’re their biggest role model. By talking about yourself in a more positive light and verbalising your confidence, you can encourage your child to do the same and grow theirs.

Ask Them for Their Thoughts
Asking for your child’s opinion on things will signal to them that they’re important and capable of making such decisions. This is something that you can do when picking out their clothes or snacks when grocery shopping.

Give Them Your Attention
Giving others time is a way of showing love. Giving your child your full attention will help them to feel cared for and valued which will feed into their confidence. So, make time to play and get stuck into whatever they’re interested in - It’ll help you to improve your bond with them as well as their confidence.

Drama Lessons
Some schools have drama clubs that give children the opportunity to practise their acting and explore their performing talents. As performing involves putting yourself in front of others, it can help children to get used to presenting and feeling less nervous when in front of others.
