5 Universal Truths of the Sleep Deprived

Ah sleep! It’s only when you’ve been ripped from your bed by a high-pitched baby cry that you realise just how delicious sleep is. But let’s face it, it’s very doubtful you’re getting enough. I’m by no means a sleep expert but here are 5 things I know to be true…
  • As much as you love your baby, if you’re woken up by their cry at 3am, it’s the equivalent of someone taking a cheese-grater to your brain.
  • If your baby is awake, gurgling away, and you enter their room and make eye contact with them then that’s it. Game over. They will lock eyes with you, reach into your soul and steal your peaceful night’s sleep, like a mini baby-grow wearing ninja.
  • As much as you dearly love your partner, you will wonder what you ever did to deserve one that a) falls back to sleep straight away once the baby is back down while you lie awake for hours on end b) snores c) breathes loudly d) breathes at a normal volume but just annoyingly so.
  • Your bladder is NOT your friend. You’ve finally got the baby down, you’ve crawled back to your bed, wrapped yourself up in your warm and snuggly duvet looking forward to returing to the land of nod and OH FOR THE LOVE OF CRAP you now need a wee!
  • That first cup of tea or coffee after a sleepless night is nothing short of exquisite. Like the nectar of the Gods.

ZZZZZ!

(p.s it DOES get better!)

  5. Just to add, i hate when my husband doesn't hear the baby crying in the monitor. How is that possible?
I wake up to the sound of her yawning.

  7. Oh, this is so apt for me right now! I actually have a husband who doesn't just get straight back to sleep, he never actually wakes up! Doesn't bat an eyelid. I quietly seethe! And the eye contact thing is so true - it's like they sense your weakness and just pounce. I'm looking forward to it getting better! Thanks for joining us at #SharingtheBlogLove

  10. Oh yes, the needing a pee early morning when everyone else is still asleep. Thankfully I'm well past this stage, but I go to sleep very late at night so am still fairly sleep deprived when I still wake at 6.35 #sharingthebloglove

  11. Lack of sleep is still my hardest thing in parenthood. If you get sleep you shouldnt say 'I slept like a baby', it should be 'I slept like a cat'! #SharingtheBlogLove

  12. I used to wait for that first cuppa until Ben's first nap. it was usually around 9ish and by the time i got up, gave him a bottle, changed him etc it was nap time. Literally better than an orgasm hahahaha!
Remind me why I thought another one was a good idea? hahaha! #sharingthebloglove
